Kerala god’s own country lies to the South West extreme of India. The state was formed on 1 November 1956 with Thiruvananthapuram as capital. It shares border with Karnataka to the north and northeast, Tamil Nadu to the south and southeast and the Lakshadweep islands towards the west. It has an area of 38,863 km2; it is also one of the densely populated states. Kochi and Kozhikode are the other major cities of the state.
